Who is an avadhUta?

aksharatvAd varENyatvAd dhUta samsAra bandhanAt |

tatvamasyAdi lakshyatvAd avadhUta itIryatE ||

The first aksharam is “a” kAra and it is the origin point of all aksharAs and the one who always remains in the consciousness of this mighty akshara “a” is what is represented by “a” of a-va-dhU-ta

The one who always remain higher than anything or anyone is represented by “va” of a-va-dhU-ta

The one who has cuts his bandha of samsAra and remains aloof in this world like a “dhUta” is represented by “dhU” of a-va-dhU-ta

The one who always carries the lakshya of tattvamasi through out his life on Earth is represented by the “ta” of a-va-dhU-ta

If someone who has these lakshaNAs, they are to be considered as a avadhUta and no ordinary man.

This avadhUta mahAswAmin who is venerably regarded as mahAguru guides us with dashavidha yama.. This yama shall either be called as a discipline, self-restraint or key to open-up the spiritual enlightenment. They are:

  1. ahimsA – nonviolence.. One mustn’t think he is parashurAma and fight in social media for the filthy religious politics. You become a brAhmana, a devout bhakta, follow all the principles of Hinduism, respect shAstrAs, hold on to traditional ways – from your part you will play to uphold the religion like this only. Not engaging in fights or raging talks.
  2. satya – Truth.. One must always carry truth in his heart & tongue. Never he should utter even a single lie. If you have done a mistake, accept it boldly and face the consequences. If you are not something, then don’t project yourself as that thing. Remain truthful to you and as well as to others.
  3. astEya – non-stealing.. One mustn’t even think to steal someone’s people or property or praises.
  4. brahmacarya – Celibacy.. Here, celibacy shall be maintained in two ways.. One is remaining celibate physically which is not recommended to everyone and the other is remaining celibate mentally from engaging one’s self into non-stop coitus with material part of life..
  5. dayA – Compassion.. Here a man must be wise enough to differentiate whom to show his compassion and whom not to.. If a man deserves your compassion and you ignore him because of your self-interests or self-ideologies, then this is a sin.. And, if a man doesn’t deserve the compassion, but you remain compassionate to him again with your own ideologies or for your interests, this in turn a sin again. This wisdom can’t be learnt from the books like the just mantrAs our people get from the books and decorate it with their vocabulary skills.
  6. Arjava – straight-forwardness… In this modern spirituality, it is the diplomacy that is getting celebrated. But, it is that diplomacy that has to be burnt to ashes and one must carry honesty, sincerity & straight forwardness with him.
  7. kshamA – forbearance.. As simple as to say, carrying patience with him to forgive people when they understand what they did is wrong. One must never get into tit for tat business.
  8. dhRti – courage.. A man must never get afraid of anyone or anything. The one who carries satya in heart gets the trait of dhRti automatically.
  9. mitAhAra – moderate food.. Always a man must take food for his hunger and not for his appetite.
  10. shauca – cleanliness.. A man who wishes to walk in the path of spirituality must carry utmost cleanliness starting from his mouth, body, private parts, anus, mind & heart. It has become a principle nowadays like the one who doesn’t brush his teeth or won’t have a bath & eat all filth is considered as an aghOri or siddha purusha. But! no, it is not and they are not!!

This yama remains the first base for someone to erect the building called spirituality. And, an avadhUta is the embodiment of these dashavidha yamas. avadhUta is no different from the Guru and he is the mahA guru. If one adheres to his sayings, then, his spiritual path will get opened and he shall walk towards enlightenment.
