Chandra Grahana 2026
3rd March from 3.20 pm to 6.47 pm, a time of total lunar eclipse
For the modern minds chandra grahanam or lunar eclipse is an astronomical event, a play of shadows as the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon. Yet, for those who walk the path of Sanatana dharma and vidya, it is far more — a time where unseen forces stir, subtle energies shift, and help us reap the materialistic or occult desires fulfilled when handled “carefully.”
What about devotional benefits during the chandra grahanam?
That has got no scope here. Making commoners jump into this occasion and persuading them with the false narratives – benefits of grahana kala puja – is a grave mistake none of the real time practitioners would do.
Chandra Grahanam in the Light of Dharma
In the puranic lore, a lunar eclipse is described as the play of Rahu and Ketu, the shadow grahas. During Samudra Manthana, when the nectar of immortality was churned, Rahu disguised himself and tried to partake of the amrita. Exposed by Surya and Chandra, he was beheaded by Vishnu’s Sudarshana. Yet, empowered by the amrita that had already touched him, his head (Rahu) and body (Ketu) became immortal. To this day, in cycles of time, Rahu is said to swallow the Moon, giving rise to Chandra Grahanam.
This is not a mere story. It reveals a deeper truth: the luminous mind (Chandra) is often overpowered by shadows (Rahu), leading to confusion, delusion, or darkness. Yet, just as the Moon emerges again in fullness after the eclipse, the truth of the Self cannot be permanently hidden.
So, here the time of Chandra Grahanam is overpowered by the dark shadows with malicious intention & thus, the worshipping brings such results & that too, only when he knows how to do it properly.
Though this has now become a fashion, yet it is good to remain inside home and follow the traditional recommendations during Chandra Grahanam.
This is the time where the daiva bala remains weak & the strength of negative entities remain stronger.
Unless one is an accomplished mantrika or tantrika, this eclipse business won’t help him or her, rather it MAY invite unnecessary negative energies into their life.
The influence of negative energies are not always cinematic, most often it will make you not understand the right things and will make you pursue further in the wrong path believing it as the certain truth.
The Eclipse as a Spiritual Portal
Unlike ordinary nights, the time of an eclipse is considered highly charged with subtle vibrations – YES!
The veil between the gross and the subtle thins – YES!!
Hence:
Sadhana Shakti Multiplies – Mantras chanted, dhyana performed, or japa undertaken during grahanam bear multiplied fruit. Even a small effort can yield immense spiritual merit. – Partially correct! – So, do not go behind this.
Papa Shakti Intensifies – When we engage in Papa karyas.
- Punya Shakti Intensifies – When we engage in Shri Rama smarana or Shri Krishna smarana or Shiva nama smarana or Durga nama smarana. ONLY THESE NAMA JAPAS WERE GIVEN TO US BY SHASTRAS.
OBSERVANCE FOR THE COMMONERS DURING GRAHANA KALA
Have a firm belief you are no more than a commoner if you are following just texts or podcasts or the corporate Gurujis and engage in goofed-up practices.
Follow these as our traditional Acharyas recommend us to do.
- For this grahana, Have a bath once grahana has begun. Do not eat or drink anything during this time. Have a bath once again after this grahana gets over.
- Never engage in any procreational activities during this time.
- Try not to eat at least after 10.00 am. This is for the healthy ones and patients are excluded considering practical difficulties.
- On fruits, if you keep it outside, place a darbha on it in such a way it points Eastern Direction.
- Once the grahana is over – right after having the bath as mentioned above, mop the floor, sprinkle turmeric water everywhere in your home for shuddhi karana.
Pregnant Women’s Caution – Special care is traditionally advised, as the sensitive energies of the unborn child are believed to be vulnerable to eclipse vibrations.
Beyond ritual lies the inner tattva:
The Moon represents our manas, ever restless and reflective.
Rahu represents illusion, the pull of desires, the clouding of clarity.
The eclipse is a reminder that every seeker must face the darkness of their own mind. The shadows of unaddressed karma and unintegrated desires can obscure one’s clarity. So, like how the moon remains as a prisoner in the mouth of Rahu, alike one’s manas remain a prisoner when the desires take the form of a rakshasa.
“Thus, this time comes with the rakshasa chaitanya and so, people willing to earn daiva chaitanya must refrain from engaging into any nonsense activities as now it will float like a paper boat all over the internet.”
On this 3rd of March 2026, may we remember that the play of shadow and light is not just above in the heavens, but also within and the rakshasas (dur-buddhi) will always wait to grab us.
So, keep up the sane mind & understand, this is not the time for bhakti pujas and “grahana-kala utsavas” as falsely advertised today. Making commoners believe that grahana puja gives extraordinary devotional results is misleading & the marketing for the opportunists. The eclipse is not a moment of devotional celebration — it is a moment of spiritual caution.
