In our traditional Bharatiya sampradaya, Naga Dosha is neither a random planetary affliction nor a superstition attached to horoscopes alone. It is a deep karmic imbalance arising out of previous & present life when one violates the subtle laws governing life, lineage, restraint, and sacred boundaries.
Nagas represent prana shakti, fertility, continuity of lineage, protection of the earth, and the unseen guardians of dharma. When actions—gross or subtle—injure these principles, Naga Dosha manifests.
Below are the causes of Naga Dosha, as preserved in living traditions practicing the Naga Vidya.
1. Abortion – Disruption of the Flow of Life
Abortion is not viewed merely as a physical act, but as a violent interruption of prana that has already entered a womb. Both the living & the dead will fall under the constant sight of navagrahas. And, nagas are the embodiment of nava grahas. The fetus that is inside the womb is the holiest of all the creation and killing it is killing the God or Goddess itself. That is why, aborting the child stands as the foremost & the strongest cause for the naga dosha.
2. Killing a Snake
In times like these dharma also has become traditional dharma / modern dharma kind of..
So, in the traditional dharma, a snake is never an ordinary creature. It is a carrier of prana and a visible embodiment of divinity. It acts on both living & dead men. Killing a snake—intentionally or carelessly—creates one Naga dosha. Such karma does not exhaust easily and often extends into lineage effects.
3. Misuse of Mantra–Tantra-Yantra vidya
When a tantrika or mantrika performs ashta karma prayogas —such as:
- Vashikarana
- Mohana
- Aakarshana
- Sthambana
- Vidveshana
- Uchhadana
- Bedhana
- Marana
for harming others; the backlash is Naga Dosha.. Whatever maybe the reason!
4. Destruction of Anthills
Anthills are primary abodes of Nagas. Destroying them—whether for land, construction, ignorance, or mockery—is considered a direct assault on Naga sthanas.
Consequences include:
- Infertility
- Repeated miscarriages
- Mental unrest
- Sudden reversals and losses
Even accidental destruction, if repeated or careless, leaves karmic residue.
5. Destruction of Snake Habitats and Acts of Gross Cruelty
This includes:
- Destroying snake dwellings
- Killing buffalo – link this with modern so-called dharmic talks on bali. Without the proper practical knowledge on vidyas, talking about it / preaching about it to others is like feeding poison to others as every action comes with equal & opposite reaction.
- Hurting others through thought, speech, and action. This is for which we will always tell – never fall prey for the talks like “become parashurama to save hinduism”.. If you want to save Hinduism, become Shri Rama. Follow the learned elders and walk in the path of dharma rather than bringing the podcast or pdf justifications for your actions or talks.
6. Striking or Physically Abusing Others
Violence inflicted on others—especially the helpless—creates serpent-like karmic knots.
This manifests as:
- Chronic anger
- Relationship breakdowns
- Fear and insecurity
- Health issues connected to nerves and blood
Physical harm binds the doer karmically to the victim.
7. Binding Others With Ill Thoughts or Actions
This includes:
- Psychological manipulation – modern women & women like men must note this!!
- Blackmail, coercion, or occult binding
- Forcing others into wrong actions
Such acts mirror serpent constriction, where freedom is removed. Nagas govern freedom of movement—physical and subtle—and respond sharply to such violations.
8. Hatred Toward One’s Guru
Guru sambandha is directly protected by Naga Sambhanda which is why it continues births after births.. Hatred, resentment, or contempt toward one’s teacher is not a minor emotional issue—it is a grave spiritual violation.
Even silent hatred creates:
(a) Loss of spiritual protection
(b) Sudden downfall after progress
(c) Combined Guru–Naga Dosha
This dosha has no parihara.
9. The Eleven Grave Sins That Attract Naga Dosha
Certain acts create immediate karmic contraction, drawing Naga affliction naturally:
- Guru-dvesha – Hatred toward one’s teacher
- Guru-ninda – Slandering or mocking the teacher
- Guru-dhana-apahara – Stealing or misusing guru’s wealth
- Guru-talpa-gamana – Violating the sanctity of the guru’s family
- Guru-vachana-atikrama – Deliberate disobedience of guru’s command
- Sva-dharma-tyaga – Abandoning one’s rightful spiritual or ethical path
- Sadhu-dvesha – Hatred toward saints or righteous people
- Sadhu-ninda – Mocking or slandering the virtuous
- Brahma-hatya – Killing or severely harming a spiritually elevated person
- Anya-tadana – Physically abusing others
- Anya-bandhana – Wrongfully imprisoning or restraining others
These acts tighten karmic coils, just as a serpent coils tighter with resistance.
Naga Dosha Is Not a Curse, But a Consequence of our own actions..
Naga Dosha is a punishment.. It is the judgement given by the navagrahas for our actions. If anyone thinks – Kalika or Bhairavar will change & alter navagrahas, I pity their absolute nonsense.
The causes listed above are not personal views, folk belief, or merely oral tradition.
They are explicitly preserved within Naga Vidya..
What modern astrologers loosely labels as “Sarpa Yoga or Kala Sarpa Yoga” is often a shadow of deeper violations described clearly in this vidya.
If this understanding creates panic, it reflects the conditioning of modern, manipulated interpretations of dharma that exist to justify actions rather than examine them.
True dharma does not avoid discomfort—when one feels unease while reflecting upon one’s own thoughts and actions, that very awareness is the mark of a responsible and conscious human being.

If ever you feel, you have done this a lot, but you haven’t faced any impacts – this means, make sure you still have good karmas in your account and so, this naga dosha as a consequence of your actions is now following above your head and once all your good karmas are finished, it will coil around you like a python tightly coiling around its prey and from that moment on, things change!
