Why Perform Vatuka Bhairava Puja on Krshnapaksha Ashtami?

Krshnapaksha Ashtami is a powerful tithi for overcoming obstacles, enemies, and accidents. On this sacred day, not only Bhairavar but various divine forces that act in a similar manner are worshipped. The significance lies in the tithi only. It is not that any particular swAmy owns the particular tithi. Every swAmy holds every tithi.

On the tithi of Krshna Paksha Ashtami, a deeply sanctified puja will be performed in honor of Shri Vatuka Bhairava, the fierce yet compassionate Lord who governs all directions, all times, and all transitions.

Though the puja is performed on Krshna Ashtami, know this – Vatukar is beyond the 15 lunar tithis. He is untouched by creation, by time, by cycles—He is their Lord.

At our Pitham, we honor Vatuka Bhairava on this day along with the chatuhshashti bhairava puja (64 bhairava puja). Bhairavar stands beyond the conventional ideas of dharma and adharma. He does not discriminate between righteousness and unrighteousness—whoever worships him as per the right method, he takes care of them. He is neither a protector of dharma nor a shelter for adharma.

Who is Shri Vatuka Bhairava?

He is not a child, though He appears youthful.
He is not bound by time, though He governs it.
He is the essence of Bhairava-tattva in its potent form & he is the heart of Kapalika vidya which is why, a proper approach is mandatory.
