prANAyAma – controlling the breathe

Breathe is linked entirely with thoughts. Thoughts are entirely linked with the time. Thus, breathe is entirely linked with the time. The one who actively controls his breathe, controls his time. There is no other way to handle the time as efficient as the prANAyAma.

Always, tantra-mantra-yOga – cannot exist separately. A yOgi can never be the expert of mantra-tantra, yet he uses a little of it to derive the optimum result from his yOga. But, a mAntrIka / tAntrIka will remain expertised in yOga as well; as yOga is as mandatory as the breathe for the man.

prANAyAma – begins with the nADi shuddhi.. nADi shuddhi and nADi shOdhanam are no different from each other.

nADi shuddhi will help on remove the mental blockages and physically helps one get more of oxygenated blood supply to his organs. Thus, it keeps him physically & mentally active, devoid of diseases to the possible extent when it comes to physical level and 100% disease free when it comes to mental level.

It regulates the flow of prANa through the nADis, which are considered pathways for energy in the body. nADi shuddhi helps balance the nervous systems, leading to reduced stress, improved focus and strong grasping skills. When we learn, our maharAj will give the mantrAs only once, will show the mudrAs only once and will teach the pUjAs only once. We need to observe it strongly and have to follow those in our daily practices. We won’t be taught again as we don’t have the prArapta when we can’t hold these. There is no second time here in these teachings. But, nowadays, people want to teach them the mantrA orally first, then through written to ensure the correctness, then again through the whatsapp voice message. Yet, they pronounce it wrong. Whatever the instructions are told, it is reaching ONLY 50% and the other 50% are getting left behind with the time. Such is the mental power of today’s spiritual aspirants who wants to hold the world in their palm just by sitting inside their comfort air-conditioned room. Yet! Their observing skills, recollecting skills and the understanding ability are poor as their mind are already filled with too many non-productive thoughts from the various digital platforms.

This nADi shuddhi and prANAyAma will help them to curb their nonproductive digital activities first of all. Don’t ask me how! Practice it and see it by yourself.

How to do this nADI shuddhi?

Always the breathe technique has to begin from the right nostril (piNGala) only which is the source of our life; unless the techniques involves both the nostrils to be used simultaneously.

pinkalai refers to sUrya nADi and iDA refers to chandra nADi. sUrya is Atma kAraka and chandra is manO kAraka. If you start with iDA as prescribed by the texts, you won’t have a clarity of thoughts & strength; but you will feel like as if you feel serenity within you. This is due to the chandra amsa; illusions. If you start with piNGala as prescribed by our traditional practitioners, one will get the strong body, clarity in mind and earn a strong decision making skill with the grace of sUrya bhagavAn. Here, if sUrya nADi takes the lead, chandra nADi does all good to him. Common logic, sUrya is the nAyaka for our existence and not chandra. If sUrya is the parabraHma, chandra is the vEda that worships him. Chandra bhagavAn makes us get dwelled into this birth-death cycle. It is the sUrya bhagavAn who gives one Atma darshana. That is why, saura mantrAs are supposed to be practiced in the last as there is nothing beyond, Atma darshana.

chandra bhagavAn gives us vEda tattvArtha.. Without the clarity in mind, how come one shall grasp the vEda tattvArtha? If piNGala takes the lead, iDA gives him vEda tattvArtha. If iDA takes the lead, it gives him illusions.

Let’s see how to do nADi shuddhi!!

First, find the calm & clean atmosphere. Sit on the red-kambal Asana with your spine erect. Close your left nostril and inhale the air “gently” through the right nostril; then, slowly release the air through the left nostril. Now, inhale the air “gently” through the left nostril without the time-lag by closing the right nostril and slowly release the air through your right nostril. This is one nADI suddhi. Repeat this as long as possible. The more & more you do, the more you feel energetic. This has got no side effects at all.. It helps your body to gain more of the oxygenated blood and thus, your body gets detoxified efficiently. You shall do even for 10 to 15 minutes continuously. You by yourself will witness the improvement in your concentration, lightness in mind, non-productive thoughts getting curbed and all that is necessary for you to begin your spiritual practices. This act is no different from levelling the ground to build the building (sAdhana).. Without this, there is no building at all.

Once you are comfortable with this, then you shall begin the prANAyAma gradually.

  1. Thank you for this insightful blog guru ji! I had been there & done that but all vanishes away in one go & that is where all the downfall started. Need some more guidance & mentorship to be on the track again as I find myself lost & failed.
