sudarshana – su-darshana – the one who is all beautiful & auspicious to see.
sudarshana bhagavAn’s vidyA was elaborately given to us by the nAga kula bhUshaNAs.
Always one must understand there is no greater mArga or vidyA or maTha from one another. All are interlinked with each other. Branding one as higher brings greater misconceptions to the society as if others are lower, which is the greatest stupidity and a himAlayan sin as well.
“No swAmy or vidyA or kula or maTha or mArga needs brand ambassadors…”
A glimpse about sudarshana bhagavAn –
The brightness of sudarshana bhagavAn is equalled to 1000 crores sun.. This again cannot be literally taken as the brightness of the 1000 crore sun; this is just an example to quantify which goes beyond quantification. Such is the brightness of this swAmy and this is the reason, even the vEtala & bhairava gaNas can’t stand in front of this swAmy as they belong to the world of darkness.
It is also said, his spikes will agitate the 10 directions including the pAtAla.. It is evident that the brightness of this swAmy has reached even the pAtAla lOka & made the nAga kula to astonish who is this braHma swarUpa!! “May be” this is how the nAgAs started worshipping him!!
Though sudarshana bhagavAn is shown mostly as chakra swarUpa, he primarily carries the manushya swarUpa who looks as beautiful as mahA vishNu which is why he is called as “su-darshana..”
For all the chakrAyudhAs various forms of divinity carries, he is the master and he is called as “chakra-rAja” and “hEti-rAja”.. hEti-rAja tells us, he is the one who emits the mighty suns rays and rapidly moves out of all chakrAyudhAs..
And, though sudarshana chakra is seen as one chakra – he has various forms and they are:
- AsIksha chakra
- vi-chakra
- su-chakra
- asurAntaka chakra
- sarva_lOka_rakshaNa chakra
- sarva_samhAraNa chakra
- AsUrya chakra
- aghOra chakra
- mahA_bhaya_nivAraNa chakra
- nArasimha chakra
- jwAlA chakra
Like that of nArasimhar, he also has his dvAtrimshat (32 syllabled) mantra as the crown vidyA..
But, his saptAkshari is what is generally celebrated one.. And, for his saptAkshari, every akshara has a separate rishi, chandas & dEvata..
For his first akshara – braHma himself is the rishi with the chandas gAyatri and this akshara represents paramAtmA. And, this akshara shines with the whitish-yellow & red colours. This akshara has to be meditated on our forehead.
For his second akshara – kavanar is the rishi with the chandas anushtup having Akasha shakti as the dEvatA.. This akshara shines like that of lightning. This akshara has to get meditated between the eye-brows.
For his third akshara – nAradar is the rishi with the chandas virAt having indra bhagavAn as the dEvatA. This akshara remains no different from the dark clouds. This has to get meditated on our face.
For his fourth akshara – kaushikar is the rishi with the chandas trshtup having agni bhagavAn as the dEvatA. This akshara shines like that of fire and has to get meditated on our hRdaya.
For his fifth akshara – vyAsa bhagavAn is the rishi with the chandas trshtup having Apa as the dEvatA. This akshara shines bright white like that of sphatika and it has to get meditated on our genital.
For his sixth akshara – again, vyAsa bhagavAn is the rishi with the chandas anushtup having agni bhagavAn as the dEvatA. This akshara shines with golden yellow colour and it has to get meditated on our knees.
For his seventh akshara – again, kavanar becomes the rishi with the chandas anushtup having agni bhagavAn as the dEvatA. This akshara shines with various colours of known & unknown and it has to get meditated on our feet.
A highly celebrated mantra is this.. And, it is with this mantra, his vidyA begins. Though his vidyA is primarily seen as the prayOga vidyA, he is the one among the rare forms of divine who bless his staunch devotees with the supernatural abilities.
Though he falls within the folder of vaishnava under the conditioned eyes & intelligence, he remains no different from the rudra as well.
He and the supreme paramAtmA always remain inseparable; which is why he is always worshipped along with the nrusimhar to ensure, his worship takes us to paramAtmA, rather than making us settle here by establishing the spiritual stall.
That is why the nrusimhar who is worshipped along with this sudarshanar is called as “yOga nrusimhar” and he carries four sudarshana chakrAs on all his four hands; signifying he is the doer and nothing shall act independently without his will..
This sudarshana bhagavAn is worshipped in three forms – one with 8 hands who is sAttvika; one with 16 hands who is rAjasika and the one with 32 hands who is tAmasIka.
The one with 8 hands carries chakra, shankha, gadA, padma, musala, dhanur, pAsha & aNkusha.
The one with 16 hands carries chakra, shankha, dhanu, parashu, asi, bANa, trishUla, pAsha, aNkusha, shatAgni, khadga, vajrakEtaka, hala, musala, gadA, kunta.
The one with 32 hands carries chakra (celestial weapon looks like a wheel), parashu (axe), kunta (spear), daNDa (stick to punish), aNkusha (elephant goad), shatAgni (the one that spits 100 streams of fire), nistrimsha (a sacrificial knife), shakti (lance), pAncajaNya (a variety of fire), shArNga (bow of vishNu), pAsha (rope), hala (plough), vajra (thunder bolt), gadA (club), musala (mace), trishUla (trident), prAsa (a type of spear), mudkara (hammer), bhindipAla (catapult), rambhaka (a kind of sword), karavAla (scimitar), shanKhini shakti, carmini shakti, tOmara (javelin), prasEdikA (another kind of javelin that is long), krakaca (saw), nArAca (iron arrow), pAshupada_pratinidhivamsha_cApa (a bow from the pAshupada), shara (arrow), khadga (a type of sword), vaja_kEtaka (impenetrable shield) and phalaka (a blade)..
The mantrAs of sudarshana bhagavAn has a lot of nrusimha mantrAs with it for us to walk in the path of yOga. aghOra nrusimhar is mostly connected with him. And, in one of the ugra nrusimha vidyAs, there will be a lot of hanumar mantrAs to make it further ugra..
This bhagavAn cannot be measured in such a way, he is the embodiment of controlling or killing enemies alone. He is the embodiment of mahA lakshmi as well. His grace will help him come out of poverty in a very short time. Like how hanumar is known for accomplishing the tasks that are unachievable, the same way this sudarshana bhagavAn also is known for it.
Last, but not the least – he plays a most important role in bhairava vidyA / kApAlika maTha. No excuses like my tradition / your tradition & all – play a role here. After some point, bhairava vidyA can’t move towards positive end without sudarshana bhagavAn..
